威尔河是横穿我家附近公园的一条小河。
解析：that引导的从句做定语，修饰river。而river在这个定语从句中做主语，所以引导词不能省略。关系从句和关系代词的用法，请点击NCE2-Lesson 28 No parking，查看语法部分的解析。
near my home是地点状语，修饰the park。
3. I like sitting by the Wayle on fine afternoons.
我喜欢在晴朗的午后到河边坐坐。
解析：on fine afternoons表示一种经常的情况，因此谓语用一般现在时。
4. It was warm last Sunday, so I went and sat on the river bank as usual.
上周日，天气很暖和。于是我和往常一样，到河边去坐坐。
5. Some children were playing games on the bank and there were some people rowing on the river.
岸上有些孩子正在玩耍，河上有些人正在划船。
解析：on the river，表示河面上；而in the river表示“在河水里”。所以此处要用介词on。
6. Suddenly, one of the children kicked a ball very hard and it went towards a passing boat.
突然，一个孩子用力地踢了一脚球，于是球便朝着一只经过的小船飞去。
解析：这里的it指代the ball，所以谓语动词went指的是球，而不是人。
passing是现在分词做定语，表示“经过的”，修饰boat。动名词的用法可以点击NCE2-Lesson 20 One man in a boat查看相关语法知识。
7. Some people on the bank called out to the man in the boat, but he did not hear them.
岸上的一些人对着船上的人大喊，但是他没听见。
解析：call out，“大声叫喊”，“大声呼叫”，比call的语气要重。
he指的是船上的人。
8. The ball struck him so hard that he nearly fell into the water.
球狠狠地打在了他身上，他差点就掉进了水里。
解析：so + adj./adv. + that + 从句，表示“如此...以至于...”。
9. I turned to look at the children, but there weren't any in sight: they had all run away!
我转过头去看那些孩子，但是一个也没看见：他们全跑了！
解析：in sight，表示“在视野范围内”，其反义词为out of sight。
10. The man laughed when he realized what had happened.
那个人反应过来发生了什么事之后，他笑了起来。
11. He called out to the children and threw the ball back to the bank.
他大声喊着那些孩子，把球扔回了岸上。

a, the, some与any的用法
不定冠词a/an和定冠词the的用法在NCE1-Lesson 5 - Nice to meet you. & NCE1-Lesson 25 Mrs. Smith's Kitchen中已经有过详细地讲解。
而在第二册NCE2-Lesson 6 Percy Buttons中，也学习过a, the与some的用法。any，其意义与some相近，都表示“一些”；他们地区别在于，some常用于肯定句中，而any则用于否定句和疑问句中。
同时，我们在Lesson 1 - Excuse me!中关于一般疑问句的用法中，也讲到过一种例外情况：如果问句所期望的回答是肯定的，则可以在疑问句中用some。
